The Father's Emergency Guide to Divorce-Custody Battle: A Tour Through the Predatory World of Judges, Lawyers, Psychologists & Social Workers, in the Subculture of Divorce. Robert Seidenberg and William Dawes A summary of their findings:
  • Women initiate the great majority of divorces and start interviewing lawyers and planning their move months before they initiate action. A father typically doesn't have a clue of what's going on until he is served with a summons.
  • A custody dispute typically begins with a legalized kidnapping: Lawyers advise women to take the children and leave; or to get a protective order evicting the husband from the house. Thus the mother can establish herself as the sole caretaker, and secure sole custody.
  • The great majority of domestic violence allegations and child sex abuse allegations are false. They are made to gain advantage in custody, support, and property determinations.
  • Perjury is standard in domestic relations court. Lawyers know that perjury is never prosecuted and many will advise their clients accordingly. They tend to do this with women far more than with men.
  • To avoid a costly court battle, many fathers concede custody right from the beginning, but then find they have to spend tens of thousands of dollars just to get "standard" visitation.
  • "Child Support" is often exorbitant to the point of being financially crippling. It bears no relationship to the needs of the child, and for the average father it has the feeling of extortion.
  • So-called "Deadbeat Dads" are really "Refugee Dads" who have been driven out of their children's lives by the courts and bureaucracies.
A terrible and true expose of the US system by a divorced dad teamed up with a Judge!

Unfortunately of limited practical use in the UK

Out Smart (Instead of Outsmarted, Tarred and Feathered)Get Out Smart, LLCThis is a book no one wants you to read: especially your wife and the lawyer she will hire soon. As a man facing divorce, this book will help you avoid the vicious, expensive, debilitating experiences it usually brings.American: Horrifying, but of limited use in the UK.

Why She Cheated, and It's Your Fault Greg ReynoldsYour wife is going to cheat, unless you do something to stop it. Women have changed and they want A LOT more out of their marriages than our mothers wanted. ..... Stop being naive ..... At least 50% of women admit to cheating on their husbands! This book illustrates consumerism in marriages, the wife simply consumes and when she is tired she looks elsewhere ... feminist ideology dupes women into thinking this is somehow their 'right'.

Interestingly, the DNA-testing firm Cellmark said that in about one case in seven, the presumed father turns out to be the wrong man.
