| I lived in Spain with my wife and our two boys aged at that time 2 and 5. We had guests for dinner one night and I drove some of them back to their houses. I got back to find my wife in bed with another man. I took the children down to the airport and got a plane back home to Glasgow, to be greeted by the police wanting to question me for Abduction! Two years later the situation is that the children live in Spain and I see them very rarely, I have lost my house there completely and pay £100 per week maintenance. I would gladly have brought the kids up in the UK but the court simply insisted they stay with the mother. You can imagine I feel angry at losing my whole family and existence because my wife wanted to get laid ... and I’m looking at paying another hundred thousand pounds in maintenance and travel costs! | "Y"; Technology Consultant, Glasgow. | |

| My wife walked out with her new boyfriend leaving me with the two children, 5 year-old twins. At first it was great because she was a nasty aggressive person and had never looked after the kids. Then her boyfriend threw her out and there was only one place she could get money from to support her lifestyle with ... me! In 5 court cases I made it plain to the judges that I had always looked after the children and wanted to remain their main carer, in the house they had always lived in. But the Court always takes the womans side; I ended up with Shared Residency but minority contact, despite that the kids - 2 years later - made it clear they want to stay with me all the time. In addition to maintenance I pay all their clothes, their pocket money and all their holidays. I am almost bankrupt and am very bitter that a woman can simply walk off with a new man while I lose my dear family and pay hundreds of thousands of pounds on top. | "R", Doctor, London. | |

| I found out my wife was having an affair with my best friend! My wife got custody of my two young daughters but she abused them and prevented them from seeing me. When they were teenagers they voted with their feet and moved in with me, but the psychological damage has been done and I fear they will never lead normal lives. Due to maintenance payments I have been poor for over a decade, and feel that the system is at fault for insisting that an adulterous psychopath can ruin my family because she is female, as well as ruining my life and that of my daughters for her own profit. | "N", Squadron Leader, Leicestershire | |

| I had always looked after my two daughters, one of which is handicapped. My wife had a string of affairs and eventually left. The courts simply prevented me giving the children what was undoubtedly the best care and indeed uprooted them into their mothers house (who by that time lived in a different part of the country). I tried every appeal instance there is, including going all the way up to the Ombudsman. Six years later I am still devastated by the loss of my family, not to mention being close to a nervous breakdown due to constantly living on the brink of financial ruin. | "C", University Lecturer.
