Officially, domestic violence is any one of the following:
You may ask who decides if violence has taken place? The correct answer is "the courts" however the preliminary on-the-spot judgement used to be made by the police. Strangely enough in 2006 this was changed to being the "victim". So if the supposed victim says violence has happened then the police have to accept that violence has happened. But it cuts both ways! and unfortunately the likelyhood of her being believed to be the victim and thus getting an Ex Parte Order to keep you out of your house is larger that you getting one to keep her out of the house. In fact your police force may have a Domestic Violence Unit and their "zero tolerance policy" can often be reduced to a simple arrest the man policy! Ask around and try to identify a good solicitor. If you think something like this may happen to you then brief that solicitor on your situation. If you miss the 24 hour deadline to object to an Ex Parte Order (which everyone does) then getting into court will cost you between £2.000 and £5.000 every time, so investing £200 on a briefing is well worth it. Keep some form of identity and proof of address under lock and key at your workplace so you can get your post redirected at any time. Ideally get all your personal files to a safe place; under any pretext get them boxed up in the garage, then quietly shipped off to your office or your mums. You may also like to remove other valuables and this may be stuff without obvious monetary value...otherwise your old photo albums etc may be held hostage or disappear. If you wife threatens to pull this kind of stunt then report it to the Police immediately. This is common and can happen to you.
